Buffalo Hunts in Pennsylvania

Taking down a buffalo is not your typical hunt—it’s a physical and mental challenge that puts you face-to-face with one of North America’s largest land mammals. Some of our bulls can weigh over 2,000 pounds, while cows often top 1,000 pounds. With those kinds of numbers, it’s easy to see why landing one is a major accomplishment. Plus, there’s something deeply historic about buffalo hunting, connecting you to a tradition dating back to the days of the Plains Indians and frontier explorers. Plus, bison meat is delicious!

What to Expect During a Guided Buffalo Hunt

Our guided buffalo hunts aren’t just about taking a shot. It’s about tracking, observing, and understanding these majestic animals. When you head out on a hunt, we start by looking for clues that buffalo have been nearby—rubs, trails, and shed hair. With our experienced guides leading the way, you’ll work through the terrain, readying to take a big shot.

When you finally come upon the buffalo, there’s an adrenaline rush like no other. And when you take your shot, you’ll be glad you brought a powerful weapon. We recommend a .50 caliber or higher, or if you’re using a bow, make sure you have at least 80 pounds of draw and heavy arrows to pierce through their thick hides. After a successful shot, the real work begins—buffalo are large animals, and it’ll take more than one person to handle them. Our team is there to help you skin, butcher, and transport your prize back to camp.

We recommend scheduling your hunt between November and April if your main focus is getting a high-quality hide or trophy mount. The colder months tend to bring out the best in the buffalo’s coat, making  it an impressive trophy.
